Alright, new blog. I went to college at Grove City in western Pa, I studied Biblical and Religious Studies and Christian Ministries. I'm now happily married to Bethany Savage and have gained just over ten pounds since first enjoying her cooking and baking. I'm currently a full-time job hunter with two opportunities that are very close to fruition. First is a Youth Pastor position at the Indiana Alliance Church in Indiana, Pa and the second I can't tell you about. I love the sport of American Football. I root for good football first and foremost, unless the Titans are playing, then I root for them. I'm currently upset that the NFLPA has decertified, Adrian Peterson has likened his job to slavery, Chris Johnson can't speak clearly, and that the NFL owners have locked out the players. I'll miss VY and I have zero expectations for the Titans this coming season. Maybe I'll study sermons on Sunday afternoons this fall, wouldn't that be novel! I also play too much Civilization IV and I'm trying to teach myself harmonica.
In my walk with Christ I'm currently studying eschatology in order to determine what I believe the scriptures teach on the millennium. I've remained determinedly neutral on the subject, but in order to take the youth pastor position, if hired, I need to agree with the premillennial camp. So I've reread some of Bruce Milne's Know the Truth which was assigned for my systematic theology classes in college. I also got a book from my father-in-law called The Last Days Handbook by Robert B. Lightner which I've found to be very helpful so far.

I really don't have many things to say about sports at the moment, but I'll be posting my thoughts and opinions here as I read ESPN.com and NFL.com blogs.

Someone needs to be first...
As one of the most competitive people that you will ever meet, I wonder aloud if Jesus would play sports at all. I am about 70/30 that there is something rotten at the heart of the competitive nature of sports. On the court or field, it is my deep desire to prove that I am "better" than my opponents. Is this not pride personified? I like to write competitive sports a pass, saying that it is the most effective way to get us near the full potential of talent that God has given us. But I really think that is God using our weakness for his Glory.
That said, what would Jesus play? The "In the Big Inning" baseball joke notwithstanding, Jesus would play American Football. It demands sacrifice ("take up your cross and follow me"), teamwork (the Body of Christ), and a 4.4 40 yard dash...I assure you that I Man who could walk on water could go 4.3 if he wanted to. He would be Peyton Manning on offense, and Troy Polamalu on defense...leading his team, making all of the right calls, distributing the ball, and saving the day when defeat seems certain.
